Staying Safe: Relapse Prevention Strategies

Having attempted suicide once puts you at higher risk for future attempts. Understanding your warning signs and having a solid relapse prevention plan can save your life.

Understanding Your Warning Signs

Early signs include sleep changes, isolation, and negative thinking. Middle signs include passive suicidal thoughts and feeling trapped. Late signs include active plans and acquiring means.

Building a Robust Safety Plan

Include warning signs recognition, internal coping strategies, social contacts, professionals to call, crisis resources, means restriction reminders, and reasons for living. Use your plan proactively.

Do not wait for full crisis. Increase support at early warning signs.
